Gummy Smile Correction

A gummy smile is when too much gum shows when you smile, and the teeth look short. Often the teeth are a normal size but partly covered by gum.

How it's corrected

In gum contouring, the periodontist removes the excess gum and reshapes the gum line under local anaesthetic, so more of each tooth shows and the smile looks balanced. The procedure is planned in advance so the new gum line is even and symmetrical, and healing takes one to two weeks. It's often combined with veneers or front tooth restoration.
