Horizontal Augmentation
When a tooth has been missing for some time, the jawbone in that area becomes narrower. If the ridge is too thin, an implant can't be placed safely, because it needs a certain thickness of bone on each side. Horizontal augmentation widens the bone so that an implant can be placed, either later or, when the defect is small, in the same procedure.
When it's needed
The 3D CBCT scan shows the exact width of the bone. If it's too thin for the implant diameter planned, the surgeon will recommend augmentation first. The earlier you act after losing a tooth, the less bone has to be rebuilt.
How it's done at M Clinic
Under local anaesthetic, the surgeon places bone material on the narrow part of the ridge and covers it with a membrane that protects the graft while new bone forms. The graft heals for several months, and the implant is then placed into the widened bone. You can expect some swelling for a few days, and you'll get clear instructions for the healing period.
The procedure is performed by maxillofacial surgeon Giorgi Rakviashvili and surgeon Nukri Rogava.
Price
Horizontal augmentation costs from 2,000 GEL. The implant is planned and priced separately, and the full treatment plan is confirmed after the 3D scan. See our implant options.
