Horizontal Alveolar Ridge Augmentation (segment)
After a tooth is lost, the jawbone in that area loses width first. If a segment of the ridge has become too narrow, an implant cannot be placed safely. Horizontal ridge augmentation rebuilds the width of the bone across that segment so that an implant can be placed later, or in some cases at the same time.
When it's needed
The CBCT 3D scan shows the exact thickness of the bone. If it's too thin for the implant diameter planned, the surgeon will recommend augmentation first. Acting early matters: the longer a tooth is missing, the more bone is lost and the bigger the reconstruction becomes.
How it's done at M Clinic
Under local anaesthetic, the surgeon places bone material on the narrow part of the ridge and covers it with a membrane so that new bone can form. The graft heals for several months, after which the implant is placed into the rebuilt bone. If the defect is small, the graft and the implant can sometimes be done together.
The procedure is performed by maxillofacial surgeon Giorgi Rakviashvili or surgeon Nukri Rogava.
Price
Horizontal ridge augmentation of a segment starts at 2,500 GEL. The exact figure depends on the size of the defect and is confirmed after the 3D scan.
