Lip/Frenulum Correction

The frenulum is a small fold of tissue that connects the lip or the tongue to the gum. When it's too short or attached too close to the teeth, it can pull on the gum, cause recession, leave a gap between the front teeth, get in the way of orthodontic treatment or, in the case of the tongue, affect speech.

How it's done

The correction (frenectomy) is a short procedure under local anaesthetic. The dentist releases or reshapes the frenulum, usually with a few fine stitches. Healing takes about a week, with mild discomfort for the first days. The procedure is done for both children and adults.
