Open Sinus Lifting
An open sinus lift is bone surgery in the upper jaw that makes implant placement possible when the bone under the maxillary sinus is too thin. The surgeon creates a small window in the side wall of the sinus, gently lifts its membrane, and fills the space underneath with bone material. Once that bone has healed, there is enough height for an implant.
When it's needed
When a back tooth in the upper jaw has been missing for a long time, the sinus expands downward and the bone beneath it shrinks. If the CBCT 3D scan shows only a few millimetres of bone, a closed sinus lift is not enough and an open one is planned. In some cases the implant can be placed at the same time; in others it's placed after the new bone has healed, usually several months later.
How it's done at M Clinic
The procedure is planned on your 3D scan and performed under local anaesthetic by maxillofacial surgeon Giorgi Rakviashvili or surgeon Nukri Rogava. Swelling in the first days is normal and settles with the medication we prescribe. You'll get clear instructions for the healing period.
Price
An open sinus lift costs 2,500 GEL, in addition to the implant. The full plan and budget are set after the 3D scan.
