Orthodontic appliances are used mostly in children and teenagers, while the jaws are still growing. An expander gradually widens a narrow upper jaw, making room for the teeth and correcting crossbites. Other appliances guide jaw growth or correct habits that affect the bite.

How it works

The orthodontist decides on the appliance after diagnostics, often including a cephalogram. The appliance is made individually and adjusted step by step at regular visits. Treating jaw problems early, while the child is growing, often makes later treatment simpler or unnecessary.
