Removal of Tumors
This procedure removes benign bony outgrowths of the jaw. They are harmless growths of bone that form on the inside of the lower jaw, on the palate, or on the outer surface of the ridge. They don't turn into anything dangerous, but they get in the way: a denture or a prosthetic framework can't sit properly over them, they can be irritated by food or a toothbrush, and the thin gum over them can ulcerate.
When it's needed
Most often before prosthetic work. If a denture, bridge or implant-supported restoration is planned and a bony outgrowth would prevent it from fitting, the outgrowth is removed first. Removal is also advised when the growth is repeatedly injured or interferes with speech or chewing.
How it's done at M Clinic
The surgeon plans the procedure on your 3D CBCT scan. Under local anaesthetic, the gum over the outgrowth is opened, the excess bone is smoothed away, and the gum is closed with stitches. The procedure is short, and the area heals within one to two weeks, after which prosthetic treatment can go ahead. It's performed by maxillofacial surgeon Giorgi Rakviashvili or surgeon Nukri Rogava.
