Retainer

After braces or aligners, the teeth tend to move back towards their old position. A retainer holds them in place while the bone and gums around them settle, and it's what keeps the result of orthodontic treatment for years.

Types of retainer

A fixed retainer is a thin wire bonded to the inner side of the front teeth, invisible from the outside. A removable retainer is a clear tray you wear as the orthodontist instructs, usually at night. The orthodontist recommends the right type for your case, and sometimes both are used together.
