Vertical Augmentation

Vertical augmentation rebuilds the height of the jawbone. It's needed when bone has been lost in height, usually after a tooth has been missing for a long time, after a serious infection, or after advanced gum disease, and the ridge is too low to hold an implant of the right length.

When it's needed

The 3D CBCT scan shows how much bone height remains above the nerve in the lower jaw, or below the sinus in the upper jaw. If an implant of the needed length won't fit, the surgeon plans vertical augmentation first. In the upper back jaw a sinus lift is often the alternative; the scan decides which approach is right.

How it's done at M Clinic

Under local anaesthetic, the surgeon rebuilds the height of the ridge with bone material held in place by a membrane or a fixed frame. The graft needs several months to heal and turn into stable bone, and the implant is then placed into the rebuilt ridge. Vertical augmentation is technically more demanding than horizontal, so it's planned and performed by maxillofacial surgeon Giorgi Rakviashvili and surgeon Nukri Rogava.

Price

The starting price for vertical augmentation is shown above. The final figure depends on the size of the defect and is confirmed after the 3D scan. The implant is priced separately.
