Wisdom Tooth Extraction
Wisdom teeth (the third molars) come through last, usually between 17 and 25, and the jaw often has no room left for them. Extraction is needed when the tooth can't come through fully, grows at an angle, causes pain or gum inflammation, damages the neighbouring tooth, or has decay that can't be treated. Timely diagnosis prevents complications: infection, cysts and shifting of the neighbouring teeth.
How the procedure works at M Clinic
First we take a 3D CBCT scan. It shows the surgeon exactly where the roots sit in relation to the nerve and the jawbone, and the procedure is planned from it. The extraction is done under modern local anaesthetic, with a minimally traumatic surgical technique and strict sterilisation standards. A simple case takes 20 to 30 minutes; removing an impacted wisdom tooth takes a little longer.
Extractions are performed by maxillofacial surgeon Giorgi Rakviashvili and surgeon Nukri Rogava.
What wisdom tooth removal costs
Wisdom tooth extraction at M Clinic starts at 250 GEL. The price depends on the position of the tooth and the complexity: a fully erupted tooth costs less, a tooth stuck in the gum or bone (impacted) costs more. The surgeon will give you the exact figure after seeing the 3D scan.
Recovery
Swelling and mild pain for the first two or three days are normal and are easily managed with ordinary pain relief. The surgeon will explain how to care for the wound, what to eat and when to come for a check-up. Full healing takes one to two weeks.
Questions patients ask
Does wisdom tooth extraction hurt? Not during the procedure, because the anaesthetic removes all sensation. The discomfort afterwards fades within a few days.
Do all wisdom teeth have to be removed? No. If the tooth has come through properly, is healthy and can be cleaned, there's no need to remove it. The decision is made after an examination.
