Pulpitis Treatment

Pulpitis is inflammation of the nerve inside a tooth. In baby teeth it usually develops from untreated decay and causes pain, especially at night or when eating sweet, hot or cold food. Baby teeth matter: they hold space for the permanent teeth, so it's important to treat them rather than remove them too early.

How it's treated

Under local anaesthetic the dentist removes the inflamed part of the nerve, treats the tooth and restores it with a filling. The procedure is adapted to the child's age and done as gently as possible. If the infection has spread further, root canal treatment for children may be needed.
